I have a 2003 Discovery 2. Trouble shifting out of park. Also, engine stsrts easy and after idling for a few minutes or even after running a short time it suddenly stops running. No sputter, no earning and then won't start for several minutes. Is there a connection between safety switches and cutting out? Are ignition packs going bad?
Thank you.

cutting out may well be the crank position sensor (known as the cps). there are a number of threads relating to it on this forum -- most people say that it's a pretty easy replacement except for getting to the connector plug.

Get a Bosch CPS and not a Duralast.

Trouble shifting out of park is likely the Brake Switch, get the new Autozone type per Best4x4, I went with stock and the design is a little janky. 5 minute job.

That sounds like a CPS as mentioned, and only use a Bosch for replacement or you will be doing it again in a year.

Easy way to test for CPS - after it dies dump a large glass of cool water on the back on the engine on the drivers side, if it starts immediately it is a CPS. they get hot and the electronics don't work.
