Default Sunroof fix

Hey everyone

I just got this 2004 and need to figure out how to fix the leaking sunroof.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Of course it all starts with pulling the headliner board and then going from there to find and correct the leaks. I usually drive them 3 or 4 weeks like that to make sure I have them all.

Take this advice, I just put mine back in right away and still have a little water ingress- way better than before but I’ll be taking the headliner back out again…

As mentioned, pulling the headliner down is the first step. Look for broken connection at the front drain tubes. Follow those stiff black hoses that route up the A pillar and across to each side of the sunroof. The nipple often cracks off of the corner piece. If there’s no obvious problem there then pour some water in the tray from above and you should see it drain onto the ground in front of the front door. If you don’t it and the water backs up and overflows then the drains may be plugged. Trying to get the stiff hose off will likely snap the nipple but if you can feed some string trimmer line down the tube, you may be able to clear a plug. You will then have to epoxy the nipple back together.

While the headliner is down, it may also be worth pulling off the roof rack tubes. I have heard that the 04s leak worse than the skinny rails on the previous years. None of mine have had this problem, but others have reported it. I put 04 bars onto an 03 and put some butyl mastic sealant on the roof to seal the water out. Never had a problem.
