sunroof not closing
The front sunroof in my (new-to-me) '95 Disco has suddenly decided not to close. It will slide forward from full open, but remains propped up and will not close all the way. And of course... its raining right now. [:@]
Bad switch?
Needs lube?
I didnt want to try anything without a little guidance.
Thanks in advance!

Have you inspected the sun roof track area, is it clean and well greased? Most likely you have broken part of the mechanism which can only be fixed by replacing the assembly as a one piece unit. I have seen them on e-bay from time to time. Make sure you keep then clean and well lubed so this won't happen to you again.

Thanks for the input!
I checked it out and there was no debris in the tracks, only a little dust. I tried closing it again.. and it worked. Nothing is more infuriating than an intermittent problem.[>:]
It gets better (*but wait, there's more!): I decided to go over some of the more 'dry' looking spots with some lithium grease. Now the front is back to the non-operational state, and the back has stopped as well!

yep. thats what i figured. Ok, treat me gentle here, but 'ams'?
Oh yeah: I did find a note online (somewhere) to try disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery. I guess it's worth a shot, although I wonder why it would do anything.
thanks again.

Why does it alwys seem to be the front one? just about any sunroof problem i've seen on LR forum has been with the front!! I have a '95 and just went through the same thing. Hold on to your pants..... it cost me just short of $800 to get it fixed!! The rail kit was $130 and the rest was labor!!!!! Six hours worth. Now they tell me that the cable guide is bad!! why they didnt tell me that when they replaced the rails!! It will close now, but it makes a popping noise. the dealer is supposed to get back with me for the cost of that part!! Good luck!!
ugh. i like sunroofs too. [:@]
luckily i do have the radio code.
being as thing is my first rover, i had no idea how it was 'supposed' to sound. mine did the popping thing as well before it stopped (front and back). the guy i bought it from just kind of shrugged like it was normal when i noted the sound.

so i suppose the next stage of my questions would be:
an open sunroof in a colorado summer is no big deal... but its not going to be summer forever. how do i at least get them closed? is there a mechanical backup hidden somewhere (like my old saab?)
