Suspension recommendation and a noise I hear at idle
1999 with 130k on stock setup with ARB front bumper and the Warn wench. Front is like 3'' lower then the back so would like to change out the entire setup when the winter is over. Also have rust bullet paint to paint in there when the springs and shocks and those shock towers are out. After some reading the OME and Terrafirma seem to have many options. I am not looking to lift the truck at all but would like to level it back out. What do you recommend ?
Other question, Hard to pin point the sound but seems to be louder on the driver side. Faint beeping that I can hear at idle even with the hood closed just walking around the front end. ABS Modual just making normal noises?

If you don't want a lift its gonna be pricey due to the added weight of the ARB bumper and winch. The reason your seeing a sag in the front is OE springs not rated to carry that weight on the front axle. If you can manage a lift OME or TF you can't go wrong. If you must keep it stock height contact RTE, RTE is not low cost but is of very high quaility.
If springs are original...they are well past their life cycle. Depending on weight of winch, rope or cable, you may be able to get away with stock springs and 1" spacers on front.
Funny, wife asked if l was going to get a wench for my Dll...told her l already had one. Now that l'm thinking about it...maybe she was offering up the option to have another???...not sure if l should test this theory or not?
So with the OME kit or TF, will I need to get longer Brake lines? Different drive shafts? or is the kit bolt up and no need to change anything else? If that's the case then I wouldn't mind either of those kits. The Winch (thanks for the correction. ha) has steal cable. The guy I bought the truck from was the first owner, installed all this and sounds like he off roaded a good amount with the truck north of CT. So I am sure the suspension up front is really shot.
The guy had some pretty aggressive tires on it.
As for the beeping, Its loud enough to hear when the trucks idling and you can tell its coming from the driver side under the hood. two different alternating tones I guess best describes it.
If you were to go with OME or TF 2" lift springs you would not need to change anything else. Same brake lines, stock shocks, etc. The load rating of the springs you get will determine the ride height. Heavy Duty will ride higher and harder. MD with bumper and winch might end up around stock height.
The way to measure is between center of hub and lower wheel arch at center... Stock is 19.5" My MD 2" lift with no added weight in the front comes in at 21"
Don't forget the steering damper... Probably shot too.
You mention in your first post...that you don't want to lift the vehicle. Within a couple post...you're asking about extended brake lines and a different drive shaft.
So, what is it...stock height or lift...you're looking for?
Stock height can be achieved by new springs, shocks and maybe a 1" spacer in the front. Which is perfect for non-off road use, you'll maintain a nice ride, drive ability and road manners.
2" lift would most likely require a new front shaft, but brake lines aren't necessary. But, would allow for better off road characteristics, ground clearance, etc.
The beeping is mysterious. Do you only hear it while engine is running?
Took a video on the phone, not sure how I would get it on here. hard to hear it threw the video.
As for the suspension, just wondering what reasonable options I can take with the added weight up front. Just would like to level out the ride. sounds like the MD OME would be a good choice. Or get all new factory stuff and put in 1" spacers in the front.
Ya, a new steering damper will be in order. Along with the new lucky8 front drive shaft.
Dave03S/ so 20.5" at the front, what was the difference in the rear with the MD setup?
If you have rust hit it with this stuff. Works great. Most paint will fake off if rust is already there. Even "rust" paint. This stuff never dries and remains oily. Most pros consider the oil wax products as the only real rust inhibitor that works.
Bearmach sells a set of heavy duty springs with only a 20mm lift (less than an inch), but you’ll spend just as much on shipping from the UK as you will on the springs themselves!
