Default Switch to the Inline Thermostat

I am about to do the inline thermostat modification and wanted to make sure I am putting the thermostat and the housing in the correct order.

first, which way does the thermostat go in the housing? or does it not matter?

A - B - C - D - E - F
or
A - B - D - C - E - F

and then, once the thermostat is in the housing, which side goes toward the engine?

i always thought it was spring towards the flow of water so ifthe water is going -> the spring would be facing it <-.

Thats how my rover is set up

The spring goes toward the engine. It doesn't matter how it faces in the housing as long the spring is oriented toward the engine.

Don't forget to drill a hole in the thermostat.

You should teflon tape the threads so it doesn't leak.

I'm very impressed with the inline mod, you'll be glad you did it. It's very stable temp wise.

i did 4 @ 1/16" holes opposite of one another. so I'd have an air hole close to the top of hose.
a or f goes first or last
b or e goes second or 5th
c points towards grill
d points towards engine

there is a failsafe 182 that I had the best results with

As I recall, the 1/8" hole is sufficient. I'm sure I just drilled one hole, and I seem to remember it being 1/8".

As I recall, I got the mod from JYC Salas' site, which is sadly now defunct.

Did the in-line too with two 3mm holes, and very happy got rid of the cooling bypass loop.
Try to find a 90 degrees thermostat housing, fits much better.

Save that copy! You should scan it into a pdf and post in the thread of Salas pdfs.
