Make sure to use a Non-Phosphate alloy safe anti freeze. Anti- freeze in the past used Phosphates to keep the cast iron in the motors from oxidizing, but it will eat alloys. If you have ever seen someone use a cleaner like Purple Power,Super-Clean on uncoated alloy and notice the white powder left on the surface ,that is the phospates leaching the silica out of the alloy.

Funny,
Spike you have heard the old motorcycle racing quote "New leathers are asphalt magnets".

In addition to switching the coolant I plan on replacing the wires as well but is there any thing else I should consider doing while I have everything apart like replacing the water pump?

Thank you!

Why do you feel the need to switch coolant, my opinion is this is not a wise move. Stay with Dexcool and if anything, add a bottle of Water Wetter or Royal Purples, Purple Ice to help with pulp lubrication and better heat transfer.

The main reason why I want to change the HG while it isn't leaking yet is because the valve covers are. So I might as well change the HGs that will eventually fail any way especially since I'll already be half way there with the valve covers off. From what I've read the majority of those out there say to make the switch from the DexCool including the my mechanic. I'm going to check this weekend if my radiator has fouled as seen in the link I've copied from once of Spikes posts and will make my final decision then. Thanks for the imput!!
