Default T-case disturbing find - see pic!

Well doing the t-case lower cover re-seal as I'm trying to locate a bad leak. Replaced the front t-case output shaft seal last week with no change in the amount of gear oil loss. opened up the t-case and this is what I found. not sure what it is but looks like the remnants of a bearing race ???

DOH!... looks like a replacement TC... bummer. but hey look at it this way... if you did not have CDL now you can.. and after doing a reseal on the replacement TC you will have no leaks.

Wowzer, good news is that the t-case is pretty cheap and it will be a great tome to replace all the seals!

Not sure where you are located, but I have a CDL capable t-case out of my 01 D2 with 108k miles that I am trying to sell. No issues with it, and only replaced it with another because I thought it had a whine. Whine is still there with my new one, so it is fine.

I'm in central Indiana.

IF it is just the output shaft bearing it can be replaced and the t-case put back into service.

what the hell was a paper towel doing in you transfer case? needless to say it looks pretty clean, you may want to make sure there is oil still in there.

j/k time to call the parts guys up. not sure where you are located but there are a few really good ones around the country
