Tail lights are out - Brake lights work!
My 99 Disco II tail lights just went out the other day. The brake lights seem to work as does the little light over the license plate but I've got nothing with the tail lights. Does anyone know where I (being a non-car person, but willing to try!) could look to see if I can fix this problem or should I just take it to my car guy? Thanks!
Try your fuses first, check your owners manual for location, if that doesn't work, pull the light bulbs, see if they are burned, replacing in full sets and also replace any other bulbs that are starting to look black, at the same time.
Hi Mike - thanks for your help last time on the tail light question! I finally got around to looking at them and the bulbs seem just fine. Also, the fuse that goes with either tail light seems to also have the radio and other things on the same fuse and the radio/interior lights etc work just fine. It's just the tail lights. Aren't the tail lights and brake lights from the same bulb or no? Because the brakes work just fine. It's just at night when I turn on the headlights, I get nothing but the light above my license plate lit up. Can anyone suggest anything else that I could try to do rather than having to spend tons at the dealer trying to fix this problem?
Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate any insight into this issue.

check bulbs again. there are multiple filments in each bulb, one for brake and one for the running lights. I have had it happen and was able to simply inspect and replace bulbs.
I agree, check and clean the socket for each bulb, if any bulb is starting to go black, replace them in set. lso there are 2 fuses one for the right and one for the left.
