Taking a Road Trip in a Couple Weeks
#11
Well, I just returned from the 3300 mile round trip. The trip didn’t start out as I had hoped. Started out in the Disco 2, got about 20 miles and the SES light started flashing, then went solid and then kept flashing. Looked at the codes on my ultra gauge and got misfires on 1,3,5, then add cylinder 7. So, the whole drivers side bank misfiring. Cleared the codes and they came right back. I ended up limping it home and moving all my equipment to the LR3.
Not sure what the deal is with the Disco. I’ve replaced plugs, wires, and coil packs and was not having any issues. I normally drive it everyday because I love the thing, but I let it sit for about a week and a half while I was loading it up. I guess that’s what I get for not driving it. Now that I’m back, I think I will pull the plugs and see if anything looks, not right. I’m wondering if the Catalytic converter could be bad, or if the coil pack I replaced went bad. I was getting spark. I pulled the plug wire on cylinder 1 & 3 and it was arcing to the exhaust manifold. Any suggestions guys?
on another note the LR3 drove great! It ate up the miles with ease and was probably more comfortable than my Disco 2. I averaged around 20 mpg. I tell you what. The temperature dropped to -16 degrees one night and at that temperature you will find any issues that are hiding. I had a rear hatch strut die on me. We loaded up the back ready go go hunt, Closed the hatch and I heard this loud air leak. I was like “what the hell is that?” I thought I busted one of my dad’s oxygen bottle fittings as he is on oxygen at that altitude. Opened the hatch and it wouldn’t stay up. Not a problem, found me a tree branch, broke it to size and was good to go. Next the dash lights didn’t want to turn on until it warmed up and I toggled the light switch a few times. Then about 2 days into the trip I got a suspension fault which I’ll need to work out. All in all it was a great final hunting trip with my dad and brother. No success on the hunt, but had a great time reminiscing with my dad over the last 30 years of hunting. Not much luck by anybody this hunting season. Everybody we talked to didn’t see anything. I actually got on the trail of 4 cow elk, they ended up going to private land. Could have got a nice Buck, but only had an Elk tag. Had an amazing time. Wish I coulda taken the Disco cross country. Maybe another time.

Well at least it had the decency to start acting up close to home.
I pulled that move once when I was going camping with my 2 month old baby.
We got about 10 miles from home, had to pull off the freeway and the power steering went totally out on an exit ramp for about 5 seconds. Scared the crap out of me. Went back and ended up taking a Honda Civic on the trip. Funny enough there was another DII only 2 campsites down from us. They had a new Turner Engine and were still having problems. Great to hear right after I had my Turner put in.
Now most of my problems are sorted. You just gotta keep chipping away at it.

@soarvet Stuff happens we had 14 tricks go down a boulder strewn trail, L3's L4, a couple of Discos' and a bunch of defenders, I had the only damage dropped off a big rock toasted my rear bumper. You got out to the backcountry with your dad, and spent time with him in the end that is the most important thing.
