Default Temp guage cold all the time, help please!

I'm new to Land Rover (hello by the way), and have a 03 Disco II. I've put several hundred miles on it and it drives nicely, no real issues.

I was driving on the freeway, and at a constant pace the temp guage went to as far cold as the guage can go. It is well below the cold area and the warning light comes on. I let the vehicle sit overnight and the guage worked normal for about 2 minutes of running and then spiked cold again. Is the temp sender in question the one on top of the engine behind the alternator? Anyone have any detailed information on it ie; ohmic ranges, is it a 5v sensor, wiring schematics? Anyone have this issue before?

Thanks all

Temp sensor is between the A/C compressor and the alternator. Sounds like yours has a dead spot. From what I can see from the RAVE manual it appears that the ECM temp sensor and the gauge sensor are one in the same. $27 at autozone.

Did you check your coolant level?

I'm DVOM-less today, so I'm shooting in the dark. I've had the same thought except, yesterday I was at full op temp, and doubt it had that much time today. I gotta drive it tomorrow, and am paranoid of overheating. Thx for input

Yep, I checked coolant level. This rig has had all fluids flushed in the last month, and as stated I've put 5-600 miles on it this week. If its an air pocket I'd think it would have moved by now, or given false reading before...

The temp sensor is pretty easy to change. I would also bleed the coolant again.
