I just replaced my water pump and t-stat and when I started the disco up I heard a squeal. Turns out that the tensioner pulley isn't turning. Do I just need to loosen it?

 

Likely bearing is shot.....
don't loosen the bracket. that wont help.


you can find pretty good deals on pulley kit (includes idlers)

 

Any suggestions on where to begin looking? Also, I should state that when I originally tried to slip the belt off I torqued the tensioner pulley the wrong way... could I have inadvertently tightened it down too much?

 

Possible, I guess, that you could have damaged it. I kind of doubt it.local parts store/
Rovers north / lucky 8/ Atlantic British / parts geek / and so on- for tensioner pulley.
I think I got the complete pulley kit through AB but not 100%

I have a Gates Belt Tensioner I think I found on ebay. The pulley is metal and really sturdy. I had a Dayco prior to which was plastic, and probably OK, but the Gates feels much more HD.

 

The dayco is a good one, got it at oreillys.

 

I too have had good luck with orielly pulleys

 

Am I looking for a particular size or type that specifically fits '03 Discos?

 

I think the tensioner pulley is the same size it is the idler pulley that differ

 

I bought at Dayco tensioner assembly with new pulley at Advance Auto, has worked well for many years now.
