Is there any benefit to a 2004 t-case over a 1999 or 2000?
I'm getting a good deal on a 2002 SE7. Good enough to more than justify a t-case swap for the CDL. My choices are a 1999 case with about 85,000 miles, a 2000 case with about 100K miles, both priced at $100, or a 2004 case with about 60,000 miles for $225. All three have fewer miles than the DII.
I've heard that they did improve the cases over the years, but would buying a 2004 case be worth more than twice the price, or would the extra $125 be better used elsewhere?

Are you getting the shifter/linkage with the '04 for $225? If so then you should certainly go for the '04.
I am sure you know that your shifter/linkage from the '02 will have to be changed to be able to lock the CDL.
I am not completely sure what changes were made over the years from '99-04 but i do know there has been changes to the LT230.
There maybe some useful info for you here: http://www.muddyoval.com/articles/generalinfo/LT230.htm.
My 2cents would be go for the '04 with 60k on it and ask if they have the shifter/linkage as well.

I agree, definitely get the 04 provided it comes with the linkage. I am adding a cable to engage my CDL on my 2000 Discovery instead of ripping apart the center console and installing a D1 unit. If you dont get the linkage with the 04, good luck trying to find the individual parts...major pain.

The 04 t/case has a slightly different length the the earlier t/case, not a problem though, still plug and play. There were as I have heard a few seal improvements also.
Get a 04 Shifter, you'll be a lot happier with it over the older mechanical style.

You can buy one separately from several places, here is one: http://lucky8llc.com/Products.asp?ProductID=2185. But they are pricey to say the least.
If I was you I would go '04 t-case and buy the shifter/linkage from that truck too.
Let us know what you decide.
