Default Thermostat won’t open

I have put in two new thermostats that are different brand names and they both work for a week or two and then stick and won’t open. Is there a certain brand I should buy that opens at a lower temperature or what’s going on here thanks

LR Genuine OEM.

I used to have an aftermarket 180F thermostat. My temps were from 197-199 while cruising on highway to 203 while idling. With LR Genuine OEM thermostat, my temps are 185-188F. Idle at 194F.

There are several LR OEM thermostats on the market... Most of them are white... In my experience the best one is grey and available at Lucky 8 for around $60.

The grey one runs 10 to 12 degrees cooler than the white ones from AB,

Again, just because it says OEM means nothing as there are maybe 4 brands that make OEM 180 stats.

Any chance you have debris in the coolant causing the failure?

I have had two genuine grey 180 in my truck this past year. Running temps are 194-195. Idle temps are 203-208. All new cooling system, water pump, and radiator. No air in the system. New HD fan clutch too. Temps drop to 194-195 once moving. Some trucks do run warmer than others. As long as it's under 210, you're fine.

I’ve used the black Britpart 180F thermostat with very good results. Just stay away from Motorad thermostats, and grab a true 180F unit and you should be fine.

My 2001 Disco 2 has been running hot ( 212 idle, 205 driving) as well so I just ordered the Low Temp T from LUCKY8
if this one helps bring it down 10 that is sufficient for me.

Yes we use the Genuine 180 in the shop and our personal trucks.

I suggest you do a full cooling system flush, I find it odd you had two apparently dead thermostats. The flush will do no harm and at least you should be able to eliminate blockages as part of the problem. You want to flush forward and backward.

I actually had a good sized piece of wiring loom in my lower rad hose when I switched mine out.

When you get air in it, the temps go up.

Look at the little holes in the stat. If nothing is in the holes the stat could be fine and its just not bled.
