I have a 96 disco with 130k on it. had it since 96. never been left out in the cold. Check the faq. section and you will see the most frequent types of problems that occur with disco. maintanence is the key. If you sister deciedes on the disco. There are some things to remember. If there are no maintanence records stay away from it. Maintenance is the key problem preventor with rover or any other vehicle. Run a check thru edmunds.com for the right price for the vehicle. Repair parts for the rover are not cheap. having the dealer do work is worse. That said. I have paid about 5k in 10 years on maintenance and repairs, that includes tires and brakes. I do most of the work myself. If i rated mine after 10 years I would still give it a solid 8. I tested a 05 explorer and it was not even close to what i have had for the last ten years. I think i will keep what i have. Hope it helps. gotta love a rover. duboff

not to be a jerk but i really think a honda/toyota might be better in line with your criteria. the disco does not get the greatest gas mileage and if you don't do the maintance or repairs yourself they can be pretty pricy. it does not sound like your sister would ever take advantage of the 4wd drive and probably would not enjoy the vehicle.
