Default Thinking about a Discovery

Hey guys,
I am in the market for a new vehicle for my girlfriend, and she is interested in the discoveries. We haven't gone to look at any yet, so I can't give you a specific year or equipment package. However, I am just wondering what the common problems are, and what I should look for if/when I do go to check them out.

A general idea of things I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated. Also, how long do these things typically last mileage wise? And who are all the components made by? i.e. transmission, axles, tcase, etc...

Also, how difficult are these things to work on, and how hard are the parts to come by. I am pretty mechanically inclined and have access to full shop space and tools, I just don't have any experience with these, mostly with diesel pickups.

Thanks, and I am sure that I will come up with more questions as I start to look at these things a little bit more.

Sean

Yes, read sticky.

Not exceptionally difficult to work on, and parts are not particularly expensive.

Avoid 2003's.

I'm pretty new to the Disco world, but I've come to the conclusion that for about a total investment of $10,000, you can have a real nice $5,000 Discovery lol.
