Default Thinking about purchasing a 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II SE?

I am thinking of buying a 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II SE. Dealer is asking 8900. Any particular issues I should check for when testing the vehicle? Any thoughts on if this is a good buy? Really just will be a secondary car.

Thanks

I don't know where you're from, but that is VERY expensive. I bought a 2001 SE7 that needed a little work for $2500.

Hey permdaddy, 1st 8900 is too much for a 2001, I bought my 2004 for 9000. Take the vehicle to a 3rd party mechanic to inspect it for any issue. A couple of things to look for are rebuilt front prop shaft (if it isn't rebuilt you'd need to do it immediately) and if the head gasket has been replaced (if it hasn't you might need to do it in the near future). Also when turning on the car check to make sure you see the ABS, TC and a icon in the bottom right corner that looks like a LR going down a hill with a ! next to it. The reason to look for this is because if there is an issue with the ABS unit (easy enough fix only $200 parts if you do it yourself) sometimes shady dealers unplug these lights so they don't stay on (search 3 amigos).

How good are you at working on cars? if you plan to have someone else do the work on the LR then be prepared. You can get the parts cheap enough and do the work yourself so you don't brake the bank. The thing to remember is that these Trucks require a lot of attention but if you make sure you take care of the normal stuff she will run forever and you'll love it. Wouldn't trade my D2 for the world.

What state are you in, how many miles on the Disco and what will you be planning on doing with the truck?
Whatever Disco you buy, take it to a shop and pay to have a pre purchase inspection done so you know ahead of time what your are getting into.
If you have any other questions, get back to me.
