Thinking of purchasing 2002 Discovery
I am looking for some friendly advice. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2002 Landrover Discovery SD (75,000 miles) at a good price from my boss. I have rode in the vehicle and it rides well and it has had it's 50,000 full maintenance. He says there are no issues with the vehicle. However, I have been told by a friend who works at a body shop that the 2002 model is the worst to buy due to it's reliability. What are your thoughts on someone buying their first Land Rover. Is the 2002 Discovery SD reliable? If it is not, what can I expect to go wrong with it? I really appreciate any advice.
Thanks

RE: Thinking of purchasing 2002 Discovery
I havn't heard anything specifically about the 2002 model. It's good that the 50,000 full maintenance was done (if true) but more importantly was the 70,000 maintainence done? Will you be recieving any warranty with the vehicle? You'll want either an existing and/or extended warranty for the rover. If you have a good warranty then really, you'll be fine. If not, your walking on thin ice. Welcome to the forum!

I've got a 01' model and in the three years I've owned mine I've had no major issues other than the odd oil leak.As long as these vehicles are maintained, you should be o.k. Ask your Boss for the service history and ask to have it inspected by the local LR dealer to make sure the truck is up to scratch. Good luck! I hope all goes well.

Quick response? Don't do it. There are so many superior vehicles available that any LR is really not worth the bother. I own a 2000 Discovery that is simply not worth the trouble.

I do think that if you are not going off road Timpala maybe right.
