Throttle body froze up
Well it is official. I am a dumbass. After making several remarks about the useless nature of the TBH, I got into a throttle-wide-open situation about an hour ago. It is mighty cold here but still didn't expect it. I had a can of carb cleaner so I pulled the maf housing and hosed everything down. I plan to reconnect the TBH once the polar conditions go away.

I’d personally take the TB plate out & go completely around the edge with a scotchbrite pad. Honestly just because it looks clean doesn’t mean it is. Had two suffer that fate last year on a P38 and a D2. They completely stuck open at WOT. Even off the D2/P38 on the work bench. Solved it by removing 3 screws that secure the TB plate into position, and then cleaning it. Smooth as silk after that & it’s even on my 02 Westminster as we speak.
Are you running a snorkel? Just curious as I had a guy with one have issues during the winter. Once he turned the intake 180 degrees it stopped happening.

Nothing is impossible...
Happened 2 times last winter on 2 different LR’s, that I worked on, but can I blame it on the lack of a TBH or a dirty TB plate?? Different vehicle setups (snorkels), weather, altitude, or a dirty TB plate, or even a throttle cable could cause it. Way to many variants to take into account. Up north I’d say a TBH is a good idea as even if it leaks you won’t overheat in like 5min. However in the south if you wanna slowly kill your LR due to the nearly always leaking TBH plate be my guest lol.

It’s 0 here in Chicago, -22 wind chill. Had to carry my collie out to crap.
God bless her, the Land Rover ran like a champ today picking up the little guy. I’ve been having fun watching the 2wd’ers deal with the snow.
That’s why I kept my TBH. The second fan on my set up barely came on at all today. Snow never melted off the hood, albeit it is insulated. Tomorrow is -20 before wind chill and it’s whipping. Can’t eff around in these temps. I ain’t a caribou.

I have my TBH bypassed and it went down to -9 F here last week. I was watching the intake temperature and it got as low as -1 F when driving at speed. When it gets that cold, the air is pretty dry. I would imagine that the risk of icing up would increase with humidity. The next few days will be very cold here - I'm plugging in the block heater tonight!
