tick ticktick ticktick tick stupid lifters- possible lifter tick in 4.0 engine
i had a louder tick in my 3.9 it sounded like it was deffinatly on one side of engine, it turned out to be a worn out cam lobe, so had the whole top half rebuild- but in the 4.0 its a lighter tick sound a bit louder when cold but speeds up with rpms, funny thing is the sound sounds like its coming from all over engine noyt just one side, but if I open the oild fill cap and listen inside its seems lounder, might be in for another top half rebuild

How many miles on your engine, how often do you change your oil and have you ever done a good engine flush to improve the oil flow?

122 I dont think the original owner flushed it - I just used so far 1 1/2 of lucas oil additive, then i tried a bottle of gunk valve medic- i think the lucaus helped more but I cant tell -I still hear the tick just not as loud

Go for the flush, not a Lucas cover up with the HD oil suppliment, which I really like but you need to use it in a clean engine.
Go buy 6 qts off ATF and flush the engine, then see what happens.

is the gunk valve medic a cover up like lucas, or does it not work as well as seafoam everyone talks about, the auto store was out of the seafoam so i tried the gunk- not feelin real good about pouring atf in my engine a little nervous I suppose.

The ATF is a 20 year old process that many dealers have done to quiet down noisey engines do to sludge, bad oil flow and blocked lifters.
Gunk and many of the 1 qt engine flushs aren't bad, 6 qts of ATF is a lot better.
As for the SeaFoam, good product but here againg not designed to be a good HD engine flush.
