Default Time for a brake caliper?

Been searching. Mostly finding info on D2 brakes, but before I go throwing money, I have two questions;
1) The outside brake pad looks like new while the inside pad is down to metal... Is this a sign the caliper has gone bad?
2) Are the two bolts holding the caliper on 12mm/12 point bolts? Because I can't get anything to fit on them (and that's the ONE socket I don't have!!! HA)

Thanks Spike.
Knoxville, TN.
Guess I'll order the caliper thru AB since no one around here can even get me the correct brake pads!!! (they give me ones that look like they go on a chevy celebrity... idiots)

No, do not order from AB, order from www.autosportsunlimited.com, $70 for a brand new DI rear caliper, not sure if you need a front or rear.
Call them Mon and ask for Chris and tell him that I sent you.

I recommend replacing calipers in pairs, you dont have to but it is a good idea.

Need to add...if you need to drive the truck until your parts come in swap the worn brake pad with the good one.

I need the front. I always replace in pairs (peace of mind) I would like to swap the worn brake pad but I was unable to compress the caliper piston. I'll try tomorrow when I get the right socket to remove the caliper. Right now, when I step on the brakes, nothing happens so I think it's seized. How fast are they on shipping? Would like to get it asap. I'll park it for now.... replacing the rotor doesn't look like fun!!

I dont know how fast they are on shipping, they are on my route so I stop in and order my parts and then pick them up the next day.
But if they ship FedEx on Mon you will have them by Wed.
If they are not in stock then Thurs unless they ship from the warehouse too.
Just talk to Chris and he will let you know.
I hate to see you spend $170 per when you can get them for alot less.
The $70 ones were for the rear of my '97, not sure what the fronts will cost but I bet they will be alot cheaper than AB.
Also check www.roverlandparts.com but keep in mind that nobody is going to ship until Mon.

You might also consider rebuilding them for a lot less money. Also, since it is the front with your mileage, both fronts will need to be rebuilt/replaced otherwise it will pull on hard braking.

I have never rebuilt a caliper so rather than take a chance, I'll just buy them new. Did a quick check; Roverland is $100, NAPA and AB are $169, And $76 from thepartsbin.com ..... anyone order from them or know about them?

$76 seems almost suspicious, that's about the same price as a Cardone reman caliper from O'Reilly.

In any event, also replace your hub seals. Defender RTC3511 are better seals than what came on the Disco.
