Default Time to find a mechanic

I find myself in a bit of a position. I've only been back from Afghanistan for a little over a month, and just completed the 60k service. While gone, my wife drove the hell out of my truck, putting 20,000 miles on it. She only changed the oil once. To top it off, she never looked at fluid levels, and while gone, drove the truck out of coolant. Disco overheated and she hired some local, travelling, unlicensed "mechanic" to do some work. She's been hiding this from me until now. She paid the guy several hundred dollars, and the only work I can see that was done was replacing 3 of the spring clamps with stainless steel hose clamps. Luckily (for now I think), I have no codes and the truck seems to be running ok. Just waiting for something to happen.

The part that makes my situation worse is that I received an injury a few years ago. Changing the oil is now a serious undertaking for me, and the 60k service was painful to say the least. So I think it's time to find an indepent Rover mechanic, as I forsee some serious work coming up. I live in Central NH, and can't seem to find anyone. I'd bet I could find one in Vermont, but it is a bit of a journey. If anyone knows a decent LR mechanic in NH, or in northern New England, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

first off thank you for serving our country. what is the mileage on your truck? im guessing you topped it off with coolant and bled the system. are you getting coolant pooling on your driveway? next up i would go to a jiffy lube or similar and get that oil changed along with a new air filter and oil filter. THEN if you could i would go to a local parts store and see if they can read your codes for free just to double check that the gypsy mechanic didnt just open up the instrument panel and break the LED bulbs on the CEL and any other light that might have lit up... if you still get no codes then you are ahead of the game. if i were you i would contact the guys at http://www.roversnorth.com and explain to them your situation. They are up in Westford VT but they might know someone closer to you or one of them might even be willing to work on it for you. best of luck

Thanks for the reply. Never thought about asking Rovers North...hopefully they have an answer. As far as the codes, not reading any yet, but it's a matter of time. Disco has 113,xxx and I have yet to witness any pooling. Although if you looked underneath the truck, there must be 10-12 quarts of oil clinging to the engine belly and t-case. Just did the oil change with Mobil 1 HME 5w-30 full synthetic along with the M1-301. While doing the 60k, I replaced the old top hose with the newer style hose with bleeder screw on the T. The coolant that came out was brown, so I suspect the guy my wife hired didn't even change the fluid, just topped it off. All fluids are fresh now, but I have a feeling that some damage had to be done.

My wife has been known to do this as well....and when she gets caught it's always the same response...."I thought you could fix it so I did not bother to tell you"
