Default Timing gears and chain

I see a lot of posts in here where the timing chain alone is being replaced without new gears. Do the gears and chain not wear down together? I want to replace the gears as well but the dang puller I have will not fit on the bottom gear and I'm contemplating just replacing the chain...... Advice??

Rent a puller that works ans replace the gear. I have never replaced just the chain on any motor I've ever rebuilt. Always do the set.

Yes, get proper puller and do it correctly. You're too far in to do it half way. After driving my 03 and then pulling engine and rebuilding...the timing chain was toast (170K)...and besides bearings/gasket and such...the first thing l noticed is how clean the idle was after installing engine in my 04. And in my mind, it was the new timing chain set that did the trick. Engine has much smoother acceleration than my wife's 03 (140K) and pulls all the way to highway speeds. No, l'm not replacing the 03's set...wife is more than happy to just putt along...lol.

10-4 , I'm going to just grind away some metal on the jaws of my puller.

Wondering if user error or defective chain; Installed new chain and gears, lined up perfectly but there seems to be slack on side and tension on the other side. I have pulled and readjusted many times now and wondering if there is supposed to be some initial slack when installing or this a PIA and need to be crazy ridiculous aligned?

I know this sounds awful, but I would replace the chain and leave the OEM gears. I have done several engine rebuilds and I ordered all new parts from a certain vendor (who will remain nameless), I was promised certain brand parts, but received pure crap instead. The chain was made in the USA which I was impressed with however the gears were another story. They were AllMakes4x4 brand (a brand I try to avoid), and I slapped em on. I rotated the engine and noticed the new chain wobble. I though I was seeing things so I rotated it again and sure enough in one spot the chain moved inward nearly 3-5mm!!!!! I though I didn't get the cam gear seated fully so I checked it, but nope it was fine. The gear itself was cast wrong!!! I put the OEM gears back in and have had zero issues. I then was helping some friends in Austin and came across the same thing!!! It seems the chinese castings of these parts = is beyond awful.

Ah that's a good catch Best, I just did this last night and slipping a new cam in here in the next hour. Will definitely be checking to see if things are straight...stock gears are definitely of a higher quality. Also, bmeier my crank sprocket slid off with almost no pressure applied, new one definitely needed a little more effort and actually had to grind down the key hole as it was a sloppy cast..

Default Replaced Timing Chain on 2013 LR2 Hse and engine rough and restricted engine code

I just replaced my timing chain at a little over 100,000 miles and engine is now shaking and driving rough when slowing down, sitting at a light. Went back to Independent Landrover shop and they are telling us its the solenoids that are causing this. Has anyone herd of this. We are $4000 in with the timing chain work and not sure if the issues are related to timing chain job.

Are you talking about an LR2 or a D2?
