Default Tire Frustrations

ok so I have the 8J X 16 rims that have the 255/65 R16 tires. Now trying to find ones that a decent enough for on off road is a pain up here the stores have a limited selection they can get for it. Now they will only sell you the recommended ones for it as that is what they have to do but what else can I run on them?? with out replacing the rims I have..
we have stock suspension and maybe just maybe go with a 2 inch lift when I need to replace the shocks and springs later on, but for now need something that is going to work well.

I have 265/70r16 on the stock 16" wheels on mine, no lift.

no rubbing at all? and any difference on the speedo?
and that offers me a much better selection of tires too

I run 245/75/16 Cooper Discovery St Maxx they work well for the FSR's out in the Pacific Northwest. Mostly hard pack, surface mud and wet rock. I prefer skinny tires though.

My factory bumpers were smashed so I have offroad bumpers, no rubbing.

I am stock but not sure if the bumper make that much a differance

When my 03’s were new = I ran 265/75R16’s with zero rubbing! Of coarse coils sag so results may vary.

Depends a lot on what you want from your tires and the look you are trying to achieve?

I was running 235/85 r16 which is an enormously popular size of tyre with huge selections available to meet every terrain type you are likely to encounter, look good on an 8" rim too.

I had them on stock suspension and only needed a very slight cut to the rear arch to alleviate some rub but that was all.

Wheel and tyre upgrade to 235/85 r16

I've recently upgraded to a 33X12.5X15 tyre and wheel package, going to need a bit more work on the truck to get there to work.

Fitting the 33X12.5X15 wheels and tires

Would be interesting to see what you come up with.

looking for mostly on and off road for year round, something that i can get a good ride and traction in the winters up here. when I look at the 265/70r16 I get a good range to select from and around $800 with alignment and install,
