I have a 2004 Disco with the stock rims and tires on. I want to get a new set of rims and tires that I can use exclusively for off road. Here is the catch. I don't want to drop in a new suspension yet. I like the adjustable suspension of my HSE and it works fine for now. I figure when it blows out i'll get an emu 2" or 3" lift.

So what are your recommendations. I was thinking AB 16 steel wheels? What is the max size you guys have been able to run without doing a lift? A friend has and SE with a lift and runs a 265/75/16 on AB steel. I worry this might rub.

If you think I should go another route please chime in. I'm new to this whole thing.

 

I installed 275/65/18 on stock suspenders and they didnt rub until full lock, which they still do after the suspenders install.

 

a 265/75/16 is approx. 31.5 inches tall your stock tire is approx. 30.5 inches tall, you should be able to take it from there.

 

I may be wrong drowssap, but I thought stock tires were 29in tall. I have 30.5in tall tires on my 04 with no lift and they fit good with no rubbing but I wouldn't go any bigger.

 

your correct the stock tire is a little 29 inches tall

 

As Madlands said 30.5 all day. I ran a 265 and had to do a little cutting of the plastic in the front wheel wells. I did have running boards though. When I took them off no issues at all.

 

Hmmm....i found this neat website that allows me to do tire size calculating. Via your numbers 275/65/18 you would have a tire diameter of 32.1 inches. Can I really run a tire diameter that big? I was thinking over 30.5 was pushing it. The stock size of the 18's that i have now is 29.0 diameter.

 

every Disco is different. I cant see a 32" on a stock suspension but you never know. I have a set of 285 75 16 in my garage now and I have a lift and I am worried about them rubbing.

 

Just my 2 cents, but I would play on the conservative size and go with 255/70-16's, maybe 265/70-16's if anyone makes that size. The formula to convert to diameter is
width x aspect ratio x 2 (then convert to inches) then add the rim diameter.
255 x .7 x 2 / 25.4 + 16 = 30.05"
