Default Tire Size for 2003 D2

Hi all,

I have a 2003 D2 and I have decided that its time she saw some mud and rocks! She has standard road tires at the moment 255/55/18.

I want to go for Mud Terrian, I used to have BFG AT's on my D1 back in the UK but want to turn it up a bit with the off roading here. I am rather keen on the Cooper Discoverer STT:

I would for now at least want to keep my OEM Alloy's. The clostet fit I can find for the Discoverer is 275/65/18.
Could someone confirm that the 275's would require a lift? I am planning to do a 2" Terrafirma lift but preferably would have liked to get the tires first, give her a run out and do the lift a bit later. However I think with the Discoverer's I am going to have to lift first then tire change or loose the inside of my fenders?

I put 265/60r18 BFG rugged terrains on mine before my lift and they fit really well, but I really think any bigger would have rubbed. I could be wrong though.

Lift first, tires second. It sucks to do it twice...ask me how I know...

Oh boy, no thank you, lol.

I just watched the Video for the Terrafirma installation. I would like to do the installation myself (I have done all my own work for years, my father taught me growing up from the age of 6, he was a Ford Tech) although I am not sure of the success of the lift kit without a four post lift?

What would be your thoughts?

I just completed the installation of my 2" OME Lift this weekend. I used a drive-on lift, rather than a 4 post because we had a car on the 4 post waiting on parts...

The drive-on lift worked fine (it has pneumatic jacks for front and rear to lift tires off the surface of the drive on lift). There isn't anything that I did on the lift that I couldn't have done on the ground with jack stands and a floor jack. The drive on lift just made it so I wasn't bending over or crawling around on the floor.

The factory bottle jack comes in handy (place it between the axle and the frame, one side at a time) to gain enough clearance so you don't have to use spring compressors when installing the springs.

My rear suspension is the SLS, so putting spacers under the bags was simple...

Took me an hour and a half to do the front - including new shock towers, springs, shocks and steering damper...

Took me an hour to do the rear SLS spacers and that included the time necessary for finding the appropriate tap to tap the holes that the spacers bolted to.

You shouldn't have any problems if you are a competent wrench...

Yeah the RN Video, you made. Most useful. Thats great I will give it ago. Does a D2 loose much stability if you go more than 2" on the lift kit?

Not really if you keep the sways and don't do a light duty spring setup.
