Default Tire size and vehicle height update

I know it is a topic here from time to time but I thought I would post some statistics on the tires I am running and the vehicle height since I did my OME HD spring and shock upgrade.

My 03 Disco came with a set of Dakota Definity A/T tires on it in a 265/70/R16 size. They are made by Cooper and sold by Pep Boys; not a bad tire for low to medium offroad use in my opinion. They make a M/T tread pattern that is more aggressive if anyone is interested.

About 7 months ago I was going to be doing several long road trips on the interstate so I found a set of LR rims with Michelin LTX M/S tires in a 255/65/R16 size and good tread on Ebay. They had decent tread left and I got the 4 and a spare for $250 and they were close enough to pick up instead of shipping. Not long after putting them on I did a OME HD spring and HD shock upgrade.

I've been running the Michelins but I am going down to the coast tomorrow and plan to drive on the beach so I switched out the tires and did a measurement of each using the center edge of the fender above the wheel center as a reference point. Here are the measurements:

Michelin LTX M/S 255/65/R16 34 1/8th inches
Dakota Definity A/T 265/70/R16 35 1/2 inches

So the increase in height is almost an inch and a half. Thought this might be of use to anyone considering a spring/shock upgrade and tire swap out.

Chrisinhouston, Are saying that the top of the arch in the fender is identical front and back? Mine tends to squat in back, but I was told that's because the arch isn't as high in the back... just curious...

What has been the experiences of folks using the RoverTym SLS spacer kit. Trying to get my truck back to level after installing medium stiffness OME springs in front. The springs gave it about a 2 inch difference from start to finish... part of that I attribute to spring sag (60K) and part to a slightly stiffer spring....

I understand that a lot of folks just get rid of SLS entirely. I am looking to keep it, but get the car back to flat. Thoughts?

Sure, I do. I am not sure you need the RTE spacers if you went with the lighter front end, I did when I went to a 3" front lift, but with a 2" you may have to drop the air pressure to lower the rear and that may cause the rear bags to be too soft.
Go measure the front and rear height, ground to the top of the wheel well trim and get back to me with the numbers. What size tire are you running?

After driving the car around a bit just to get the SLS to where it would get to normally, I measured 34 and an eighth to the top of the front wheel arch, and 32 and an eighth in the rear.

I am running 255/55 R18 Toyo AT, have about 4K miles on them at most.

I have my SLS set up, using the RTE spacers and adjusters, running 265/75/16 BFG MT's, at 36 and 3/8th" which is with in an 1/8th of an inch of the front. You may need to throw some spacers in the rear to get up more to level.

Cool. Sounds like I need a couple spacers. Thanks for that info.

Off chance, do you know what stock ride height is? I presume its roughly around 33 inches (I think I remember you had a 3 inch lift, and you are at 36)....

Just curious how much my springs had sagged before I replaced them...

Anyone know what stock ride height is from the factory on these (to the top of the wheel arch?)

So after some more thought and consideration, I am looking to bring the front of the rover down to stock ride height so the front and the rear are the same... I currently am running OME medium duty springs up front and have the SLS (which I plan on keeping) in the rear. I like the OME medium duty ride, but not the height. Anyone know if there is a spring with similiar performance characteristics as the OME medium duty, but runs about two inches shorter? Much appreciated.
