Default Tires. suggestions requested!

Alright. Well, I think I've put off long enough treading into this forsaken topic of "tires". With that said, I am looking at either the Toyo Open Country AT. or the Grabber AT. someone writing a review on the Grabber AT said they had a 70mile per tank reduction in their gas millage. Any thoughts about the reduction.

Currently, I have 255/65/16 would going to a 245/75/16 be taller or shorter? I can't remember how tire sizes go! Wouldn't mind getting as much lift from the tires without having to change any of the suspension right now. No money for that mod!..

I'll be moving to where snow, and lots of it, will be a factor.
Thanks for the input in advanced.

I really like my Cooper Discoverer ATR's ......a good mix of traction and quiet, If you were to do a lot of off roading you would probably want something a little more aggressive. Tirerack.com has a tire size calculator that might come in handy

xcellers,
yeah, I had those tires on a Jeep cherokee and really liked them, however, my local cooper store is out of stock and on back order - no real hope of getting them any time soon.

last year I put on 245/70/16 sumotomo all-terrains, I like them so far.
muddy construction sites
snow in chicago
rain
low highway noise (well better than my mich 4x4)

I think they were under $700/ 4 with lifetime balance & alignment check - NTB

luck,greg

I went with p-metric GY Wrangler silent armors, size 255/70 16. Have Sears match treadepot.com price with shipping, pay tax, and get lifetime balance and rotate for ~$715.00, plus a possible $40.00 rebate (pending).

Same footprint, slightly larger diameter (30.1" on my 2" OME lift), and quite affordable compared to some others.

Just my $0.02.

I have the General Grabber A/t2 and saw zero decrease in MPG or miles per tank. They are a great tire on and off road. They are quiet, durable, and aggressive looking. Make sure for the reviews you are reading about the A/t2 not the A/t. The original A/t did not go over as well as the A/t2. In fact, the A/t2 was really hard to get when it first came out because demand was so high. They are a great value as well.

I'll say this, for as long as the A/t2 is made, thats the tire i'll be putting on my Disco.

spoke with another local cooper tire shop, they have the ATR's in stock either in a 245/75/16 or 265/70/16. The person I spoke with said that the 265's would fit without any rubbing. is this true.

The 265/70/16 "should" be ok, depending on how large the tread is, I just fitted some 265/75/16 Cooper STT's with a 2" lift and it was to close to the front wheel arch liners, so they will have to be modded for the mo....
