Tires - Why do most recommend 245's?
Just curious why most folks here recommend 245/75-16 tires for the DII? I am looking at new tires for my stock DII and was wondering why the thinner 245 are the choice tire. What about 265/70-16? A little thicker, but only 1.5" bigger in diameter than stock and close to the same as the 245's. So is 245/70-16 size a good choice for a stock DII?
245/ 75 or 245/70 are about the biggest tire size you can go to with out a lift.
You won't squeeze a set of 265's under a tired factory suspension that has already settled an inch or more since new.
Besides, going to a 265 will cost you just short of 2 MPG.

I went and changed out my gears, going to 4:11's to help bring back my power and mileage, since I wasn't going to switch back to a smaller tire. My mileage and power are back and I still have the height and traction I wanted off road.
Yea that's next on my list! I'm saving up for a bit though because I wanna put in a locker in the rear when I re-gear. Also I gotta fix some front suspension stuff on it, I've got a sagging torsion bar and a blown CV, so she's not seeing much offroading for a few weeks
A sagging torsion bar, Disco's don't have torsion bars. Which one is sagging and as for the CV joint, if it is bad, I hope you are not driving it, will cost you more when all hell lets loose.
No I meant on my blazer, and it's the passenger side t-bar and passenger side CV. Not being driven, I'm showing the Range Rover a little more love while the Blazer waits for $$
I've been experimenting quite a bit lately. I too have gone from stock suspension to a 2 inch lift and 265/70-16, and found that driving in sport mode helps the vehicle up to speed and therefore allows better m.p.g with oversize tires.
It makes sense, since except from a complete stop where the stock gears are just what they are, the sport mode allows higher r.p.mtransmission upshift which acts the same as if the gears were lower. Try it it works!!! Only if you have bigger than stock tires though.
