Default Tocking sound when cold????

2000 Disco II 95,000miles. I have noticed that when the engine is cold I hear this low very rythmic tocking sound upon acceleration. I do not her the noise when just idleing nor do I hear it after the engine is warmed up. Any ideas what what is going on?

worse case is a bad crank bearing but more likely is is a simple exhaust leak. once the exhaust metal heats and expands it goes away.

next time you start it up cold step outside the rover and see if you can tell if the noise is coming from the top of the engine or the bottom

Rover engines are reliable but not high tech. The rocker arms and flat tappet camshaft makes for a noisy engine when cold. I let mine warm up for a minute before I drive it in the morning. When the engine is cold start it up and listen for where the noise is coming from.

Cheers,

Pete

Your are going to need to be a lot more specific as to the location of the noise.
