Default Tom Woods installed, now vibration...

So I installed the Tom Woods front driveshaft yesterday and went to visit some friends. I noticed that I have vibration as of 70-75 mph now, which I did not have before... Could it be that the shaft is not balanced correctly? Or did I miss something during the install?

Also, when I had the old shaft removed, I was able to turn the differential by about 3/8" as well as the transfer case by the same distance. Is that normal? When I drained the front diff last weekend, I noticed a substantial amount of shavings and now I am a bit worried it may be going bad.

Cheers!

Are the bolts tight?

Is your CDL locked?

What kind of shaft did you get? Double cardon? Two joint? multi?

When I took my drive shaft out it also turned a little bit. Same thing as when you jack up one tire and you can spin the wheel just a couple inches.

Bolts as tight as I could get them, no movement in them.
CDL not locked
Double Cardon

Ok, so the movement is normal, that is good to know.

A few months ago I had my front driveshaft replaced with a rebuilt from a local indy. I too noticed a vibration afterwards, turns out the replacement shaft needed to be balanced. Has been ever since.

Yeah, my next guess is a balance.

All I can say is that every single person on here who has installed a Tom Woods has had to get it balanced because of a vibration after install.

You will still need to have it balanced at a shop. You are adding 3 grease zerk, and while it may not seem like much, it will throw it off....

But where I live you can't get passed 50mph before having to brake hard or you'll end up in the ocean... so I should still be vibration free. I will stagger the grease fittings and go from there. MUCH cheaper than buying Tom Woods and STILL having to get it balanced.

They don't charge very much to do it. I had both shafts done and balanced for $150. They had fittings, but at 160K miles, I just wanted to make sure.
