Default tom woods shaft

yesterday got my mechanic to replace my front drive shaft under warranty on my 04 disco, wanted to do this before the original failed, replaced with a tom woods, what a pain, after test driving it on the hwy, as soon as the truck hit 115 km the whole truck started to vibrate, had to get old one put back on, has anyone had this problem with tomm woods??

check the ouptut flange on the transfer case.. bearing might be shot......you are gonna have to take the driveshaft back out and check the flange for movement, play, etc.. then check everything else. wheel balance, could have a bad wheel bearing and hub....... but first, check the output shaft for play

I've had my TW for about 20K miles and typically drive between 40-80 MPH (gotta love TX speed limits!). No vibration or noticeable difference from my old, stock driveshaft.

Default Maybe similar issue

Just installed Tom Woods. I too notice vibration or road noise at 75-80 mph. Having said that, I don't normally drive it that fast, and can't recall how the truck drove at that speed with old DS (I was reluctant to drive it that fast with stock DS). Other than higher speeds, truck drives smooth.

just an update/info on my issue, been waiting now 3 weeks for my driveshaft to get rebalanced at tom woods, got an update friday apparently their balancing machine has some issues and they have had about 6 shafts come back for this same issue, hopefully they get this done soon.

Good to hear that they found the cause of the problem and are working to correct it. Hope you get your driveshaft soon and thanks for keeping us up to date.

If you had it done under warranty, why didn't you have them put on a new one when you sent back the Tom Woods, rather than an old one with 115k when they are known to fail with as little as 50k?

i reinstalled my original shaft i had right after i test drove the disco with the new tom woods shaft which vibrated, if i had to a stock shaft on then yes the dealer would prob have a few instock, but here in toronto there isnt exactly tom woods shafts lying around, so im waiting for a new shaft to come in, just a heads up for those of you that are planing on installing a tw shaft, they might be having some issues over there, i would wait a bit.
