Top end assembly questions
These as they popped into my head:
- What it is the best way to re-pressurize the fuel rail
- Cleaning any material that got into the piston bores during head gasket removal
What it is the best way to re-pressurize the fuel rail?
I didn't do anything special. Won't the fuel pump repressurize it?
Cleaning any material that got into the piston bores during head gasket removal?Vacuum?
2. I was taught in auto shop in high school to wipe gunk out of the cylinders as best you could with a rag, and then smear a little motor oil on a paper towel and lightly wipe the insides of the bores. The shop teacher's thinking was that most of the wear of rings happens at startup when there isn't an oil film between the cylinder walls and the rings or pistons, so a light coating would help a little. He warned to do this only just before putting the head on so the oil didn't attract dust, which would act like fine grit and cause more wear.

Thanks all the heads are on, not torqued because my torque wrench is too damm big for the lower bolt next to eh firewall, so I get to buy a second one in 3/8 instead of 1/2
I used a standard size(shallow) socket with built in swivel to get mine out. It's a Mac.
I think the small varience in height of different brands determines what will or won't fit in there, without hitting the firewall.

Well hilarity ensued bought a new small head 3/8 drive torque wrench and no click it is NFG out of the box, but the passenger side is done my 1/2 inch fits there. Taking it easy for the rest of the day.
