my work rig is a 08 F250 SD diesel with the twin turbo set up. runs great and is super quiet.

but for a diesel it only gets about 14.5mpg combined and on a flat stretch of road at no more then 60mph i might see 17mpg. pathetic really for what is supposed to be a really efficient diesel.

i dont know why its so difficult to get a rig like mine to see in the 20's,,,

i know gearing plays into it but really its lame

the majority of america only knows diesel motors as loud, black smoke bellowing, big rig propelling monsters... they know nothing about what is available in other countries... vw has had the Lupo for years... 90 mpg!!!!!!! the most "advanced" hybrid vehicles here barely get half of that... but once again, educating the unintelligent is a futile effort at best...

I think with your work truck it is all because of gearing.
I bet if you pulled a 15,000lb trailer you would still get the same MPG.

discoxd-I agree, suck one...and everybody calls you a ....

Diesels have gotten a bad rap here in the US. The garbage truck is dirty, noisy and belches black smoke so the VW Jetta with the TDI must do the same.

probably not.

they dont want any north americans to have access to diesel rovers at all. they are skeerd that some might bleed into the USA and infect the rest of the unknowing and idiot americans into wanting good european rigs.
