A topic of much debate, I know....
I am FINALLY ready to get back into a Disco!!!! (this makes me very very very happy)
I was wondering what your thoughts were on which model and year to go for. 2001-2004 se, se7, etc; etc;
I will being doing some off roading and pushing through some snow as well. I enjoy the game of modifying and upgrading to an extent. It is certainly more fun to add oh I don't know say a wench or lift kit then it is to have to grease Ujoints and cam shafts...
So for my money what do you all think? I could spend as much as 10 but i like to bargain and I am supremely patient!

Get a 99 or 00 DII and add center diff lock.
Then you have the capability of a a DI with CDL, and the luxuries and refinement of a DII.
Say away from 2002 or 2003 if you want to do serious off roading because you can't easily add CDL to them. 2004 has CDL stock, but they're move expensive and as you know, the quality went downhill a little bit by 03/04...
As for model... it comes down to your preference. If you think you really need 7 seats, consider the SE7, but if you're not transporting children or midgets, they're not really needed. If you want more bells and whistles, go for the SE, if you want less go for the S. S usually doesn't have sunroofs, so thats one less thing to go wrong!
You can get a nice DII for under 10K and have plenty of spending money to do the "extras"!

The jump seats that I never use and take up space do add a nice gadget factor. lol I get to pull one down and fold it back up at least once a month. Everybody thinks they are cool but not one person can give me an idea of when I would use them. Guess I need more friends. ;-P
2001 - 2003 has no CDL... a big negative if you are interested in offroading.
You can buy the missing CDL parts for about $400 plus another couple hundred for a shift lever. Or just get a 1999/2000 that has CDL and add the missing shift lever.
2003 & 2004 4.6 engines are trash, try to avoid them.
