Default Torque converter access hole plug?

Hey everyone, what is supposed to be in this hole? Something I assume, it shouldn't just be exposed like this, right?

It's in the back of the oil pan facing forward and you can see the torque converter through it. This is on the drivers side of the motor.

yeah I couldn't find much on it either.

I think it's this https://www.roverparts.com/engine/ga...eals/ERR7229G/

But I'm too cheap to pay that much without looking for other options

Found this on eBay as well.

You have a Discovery II and are worrying about paying $15 for a plug? You have a lot of cross shopping to do in your future lol.

They usually swell once they're inserted so are almost impossible to re-use.

Yeup. I fought trying to get my old ones back in and finally gave up and ordered new ones. New ones went popped right in.

Good to know. Thank you both. I'll just go buy one then.

Are these more a dust cap or do they actually prevent oil leaks? Mine have been gone for years!

dust cap. definitely helps keep water/dust/mud etc from getting in there. That said I need to replace them on all my vehicles lol
