Torque converter or shift solenoid?
i had a post on here earlier about my 96 disco. i have had problems with it dropping the rpm's down really low during stops. and on occasion stalling out. i replaced my battery because the parts store told me it was dead, but my alternator was charging fine. well the problem persists. i talked to a mechanic i know and he said it sounded like the torque converter or a shift solenoid. any ideas? if so, how hard/pricey are these things? thanks.
Try shifting to neutral and coming to a stop. Is you idle still regular? These tranny's do have a locking converter, but shouldn't lock until 50MPH. Have you checked /changed your fluid recently?
The idle is controlled by your ECU. Have you checked your IAC control valve to make sure it isn't gummed up?

i have tried shifting into neutral but unless i give it a quick rev it will stall out then too. once i stop, the rpm's stay low for a while then slowly come back up. i have'nt checked the fluid in the trans., but now where is the iac valve located?
When was the last time you serviced your old tranny? It's 12 years old and most likely in need of a service and a rewfill with a bottle of Lucas to free up the valve body
Whatever you do, don't do a tranny flush.

Now say it was the sensor, could that act up on and off throughout a drive? cause today i didnt even notice it doing it. and i even made a couple intentional quick stops. as far as the tranny mike, i have had this since august, and haven't done any thing to it but a tune up. now as far as service goes are you just talking about emptying and refilling fluid? cause i have done alot of work on my cars but never messed with transmissions. by the way, i topped off my brake fluid and that took care of the sporatic brake light. so my sanity thanks you.
I am thinking it isn't your tranny, even though you should change the fluid if you haven't yet.
The TPS and IAC are both on the throttle body. Right above where the PCV hose goes in...

And why have you not taken the time to service your tranny, the second most expensive part of your truck to replace????????
If you haven't done it yet, I woul;d spend an afternoon and change out every fluid in the truck before everything starts failing.
This week, make plans to service your tranny, do not have it flushed, just new filter, gaskets fluid and a bottle of Lucas tranny additive, then after driving it a couple of days, get back to us.
