Default Total Loss Disco, also my hawkeye for sale

So geico paid me $7200 for my totaled '02 which I think is fair. I explained to the claims adjuster how I maintained the truck obsessively and everything on the truck was functioning. So I ended up buying a 2004 Passat wagon with the v6 and 4 motion AWD and 92k miles. It is an equally good family car compared to the disco. The back seats are actually bigger and there are even DVD players in the head rests with cordless headphones.

I almost bought a 2004 DII (the guy would not come down to $8000 cash) but that would have been the definition of insanity. I will miss the disco but I'm also a bit relieved, though the VW has the possibility of giving me grief.

Anyhow it's been a fun ride and I will miss the forum. That leaves my hawkeye diagnostic scanner for sale. Like new, unlocked for the DII. I believe it has software version 2.0 or 3.0 but you can buy a cable from DAP for $30 to upgrade it to the version 4.0 software. I would like to get $400 OBO for it shipped. I will post a classified add here.

That's a huge bummer, sorry you'll be gone. I think you got pretty much the same replacement vehicle that I would. All cars will have problems, but the rover is a bit expensive for a daily driver.

Ugghhhhh... I just sold a 99 Volkswagen. Let me tell you the difference between a VW and a Rover. Rovers break down all of the time and are relatively easy for the common man to fix. VWs break down all the time and even an engineer will be puzzled and confused by that fine German engineering. Get ready for lots of WTF moments. I assume since you had a Rover you have a OBDII reader to reset the check engine light, you will need it.

Sorry man.

They are both fine vehicles I guess, but it's just trading one evil for another. The VWs have their things too though. If you think the Rover electrics are flakey, you haven't seen anything yet! lol VW has it's own crowd too, know them... love them ;-P Also, keep your eye on the oil. Every VW I've owned had issues with oil contamination and sludge. Just keep it clean.

You will be missed. I can only suggest that you spend a lot of time on the VW forums, they have issues. If you think the British engineers are whacked out, wait till you run into issues with the Passat. Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I looked under the hood of the VW and scratched my head, WTF? This should be fun. At least I enjoy working on cars. And I do not believe there is a more unreliable car than a DII. I loved mine and will own another one day but man they are unreliable in a reliable kind of way.
