Default Towing

OK, I have a question… Does anyone use their Discovery for towing? I recently purchased a 2001 D2 with the intention to use it to pull a 5000# boat. I did not make a mistake did I? Besides my wife likes it and I got a good deal on it…..

No mistake made. You can pull your boat just fine, or a house off its foundation.
Just make sure that you always use premium gas.

I plan on using my DII for towing also. I did some research and you should be ok..I have a trailer with electric brakes but your boat trailer probably has surge brakes..I read where some people do tow heavy boats like yours with their disco but did not research how well they respond with surge brakes.

I pull a 26 foot boat on a dual axle trailer with surge brakes and it is surprising how well the Disco II does considering its size. Take care of your drive train, know which gear to use and use low range when pulling the boat out of the water. I have been pulling my boat for 3 years now and have never had a problem but just make sure you use good brakes on the trailer.

Enjoy your Rover,

Fred
