Default Towing light flashing with tone!

2000 disco 2
190k miles

was towing 800 miles home with our camper and when I got to our rather rough driveway the towing icon started flashing and beeping at me. Now the flashing light and tone continues even with no camper hooked up and the vehicle sitting overnight.
How do I reset this?
thanks guys!
PS - the wife is driving it to work in the AM and she is gonna kill me if she has to listen to the stupid BONG! BONG! BONG! For her entire two hour commute.

Have you looked it up in the RAVE?

I know this is not what you want to hear right now, but I have a copy of the RAVE on my phone and on my iPad and on my laptop. Comes in handy.

Lemme me take a look.

Well, I found nothing in the RAVE or in the owners manual. You say it's the towing icon. Do you mean the one that looks like a trailer, in the upper right-hand corner of the instrument cluster? Or is it something else? A picture is worth a thousand words.

Try disconnecting the trailer wiring harness from the tail light wiring. If it has a short it can cause it to freak out.

It's an onboard wiring defect, probably the system plug connector. Try unplugging and spray with electrical contact spray and then plug back in. Of course it could be a defect in the 7? pin trailer plug also, they corrode badly from lack of use.

I think there is still confusion here about just which indicator lamp is illuminated.

The OP says "it is the green light n the upper L hand corner of the dash." The indicators in the upper LH corner are Service Engine Soon, Hill Descent Control, Brake, Diff Lock, T-case Neutral and Traction Control.

The only one of those that's green is Hill Descent Control, and if the HDC button is pressed when the T-case is not in Low the light will flash and a warning will chime continuously.

Try pressing the HDC switch and read p.49 of the owners manual.
