There is no dipstick, this ain't no honda civic. You need to get under the truck. Give this site a looksee:

http://www.discovery2.co.uk/

It has tutorials with pics on how to check and change all 4 gear boxes.

This is assuming that you have a DII.
Also if you look in the sticky "how to change the trans fluid DII" you can see the fill/check plug.

May want to pull out your owner's manual and read the book cover to cover, beats trying to figure what is going on when out on the road.

Default lipadj46.... Sir !

I owe you an apology sir !
I have only had my Disco II for a few short days. I was looking for a quick no bull crap reply. The truck does not have a manual... I will buy one however. Unfortunately for me my past experience as a NIASE certified master mechanic (# available upon request) did not cover Land Rover transmissions and their lack of dipsticks. Nor does my SCCA certification. The 3 damn Triumphs I have rebuilt all had trans dipsticks as well as the MGC-GT and the Lotus Elan. I am obviousley not as familiar with the Honda Civic My apologies sir... I bow to you. I did not read the requirements one needs to engage in this high level forum... I am sorry for this as well. I will mention that had you read my entire post Oh Senior one you would have read that my next step was indeed to put my Land Rover in the air and have a look. Shame on me for not having a manual yet and asking such a simple question that is so beneath this forum ! My guess is that your testosterone began to boil and you needed a release of sorts? It is painfully obvious that I am not worthy of a dignified reply from you... Must be because you have a tremendous amount of hair on your backside ! AGAIN FORGIVE ME OH SENIOR MEMBER

Actually, Lipadj46 linked you to a very good source of the information you needed, and by the Honda Civic comment, he meant that your Disco is NOT an IDIOT PROOF CAR that has a dipstick for everything... so be nice to those trying to help you

It was a joke geez. If you clicked the link I gave you and took a look around you will see the answer to your question and then probably the answer to your next few follow up questions.

Edit: Yes that is assuming you have a DII but I believe the DI's are similar in not having transmission dipsticks. You also need to check your front and rear differential and transfer case oil levels.

DI's do have dipsticks for their transmisisons.

The dipstick is underneath the truck though correct or does it come up through the engine compartment?

And I remember being all excited when I bought my Disco because I was getting the series II. The "upgraded" design.
