No, the dip stick is ini the same location as your 1980's Malibu, passenger side of the fire wall right next to the bell housing, it would bite you if it were a snake.
Pop the hood on a DI and you will find 2 dip sticks, engine and tranny.
And let me warn you, the last time I stuck my dipstick in a tranny I had to make a trip to the free clinic.

The yellow one is for engine oil, the red one with the rubber top is for tranny's.
