Default Trans will not engage intermittently

03 disco. Trans will not engage after being shut down. This seems to be intermittent and takes different amounts of time to engage. Sometimes in the morning it will engage right away with no problems. other mornings it will take up to 10 minutes to engage. Running errands: Park shut down wander the store come back out go to leave and the trans will not engage. next stop no problem.
Trans is shifting through all gears good. XYZ switch has been changed and adjusted. replaced... Looking at replacing the TCM. Could there be an adjustment on the t case linkage or brake peddle???
I have had this vehicle for a year now and can't figure this out. It makes no sense to me.

Get a newer style brake switch. When you press the brake pedal the shifter interlock solenoid should release & you should hear it the second you place your foot on the brake pedal. New style switch is a nice replacement part vs the original style brake switch. Auto Zone should have it for under 20.00.

If that doesn’t fix it then the solenoid might be faulty.

Just tried the brake switch. I can hear and feel it in the shift lever. I tried moving the shift to reverse to check engagement. It engaged the first time then not on the second time then the rest of the testing it engaged in reverse and drive.
In the past I could shift into all gears. The shift leaver was not locked up. Shift lever has never been locked up.

Locked up via the push button on the actual **** or locked up like it just won’t move back n forth? Pull up hard on the leather **** to remove it, check it’s condition that it moves up/down freely when the lever is pressed. Now carefully pull up on the PRND321 plastic assembly. It will have one electrical connection & then sit it to the side. Now make absolutely sure there isn’t any misc debris or coins keeping the shifter from traveling smoothly. Pretty common for debris to fall into it’s linkage. If all that checks out you can watch the solenoid when you press the brake pedal to make sure it’s fully retracting. Other then that it’s a cable down to the XYZ switch and you could disconnect the cable (I’d mark the rod with something so you know it’s position), then once disconnected you could test the cable to make sure it isn’t binding.

There is no problem with the movement of the shift lever. It works as it should. I can move it through all the gears. This has never been the problem.
The problem is that when I put it in R or D it does not give me any movement. Again this is sporadic. Sometimes everything works fine and other times I get nothing. As far as I can tell it has to be electronic. I have opened the XYZ and cleaned the contacts. Made adjustments to it on the trans. Fired it up and all worked great. Then a stop or two later it will not engage.
Just today i went to go to an appointment and had to wait 10 min for the trans to engage. After my appointment (2 hours) it engaged immediately. Hot or cold does not seem to matter.

M & S ever flash? I’d see if you could pull any pending codes from the transmission controller.

X1 ............ maybe time to change the ATF and trans filter following the RAVE procedure to refill the trans. Sounds familiarly like a lack of ATF.

She’ll surge badly with low ATF thats for sure, but it will not be a 10min delay. Good news on a D2 the pan isn’t hard to drop, but I’d check to make sure the fill plug comes off easy before draining it. Sometimes either the fill or drain plugs can strip out making a simple task a royal PITA.

From the top down. No m s lights. Just had codes cleared (check engine light went out). Will have them checked again in a day or two.
Trans and t case are topped off new filter.
Just talked with the trans shop guy and he wasn't sure. Said maybe I should go to a LR dealer shop. I would like to avoid that if possible.
Will see haw it goes now that all old code have been removed.
