Hi Guys,

This is PSJ and I joined the forum yesterday. I am having the same problem as JohnRL. I had my 97 Disco 176,000miles towed to a Land Rover shop-not a dealer. As soon as I hear back from them what the problem is I will post it.
I have had a buzzer going off here and there for about 1 month. I was told that it is a neutral warning from the transfer case. It drove just fine only it would buzz all of the time. It is the same tone you get when you put the trans in N, supposed to stop buzzing when you shift into drive. I backed out of a parking spot yesterday and tried to shift to drive. It was stuck in neutral.

John, I have not heard back from you, did you call the shop and ask them to test what I suggested?

Your transfer case was not all the way in gear, you may have stripped the gears on it by running it this way.

Spike555-thank you for the tip. I have not used the tranfer case anytime recently and I have never heard any noise coming from it.? The truck drives fine other than the buzzer. The shop I took it to yesterday when it was stuck in neutral found a corroded terminal at solenoid relay. That was not sending the signal to the trans that the brakes were on-so not allowing me to shift from neutral to drive. The shop thinks that is probably a similar issue causing the buzzing. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
PSJ

So you need a new brake light switch, easy and cheap, you can do this in your Sunday cloths.

As for the buzzing, shift the transmission into neutral and then move the transfer case shifter back and to the right (towards passenger)
If the buzzing continues then I would say it is a bad sending unit for the t-case safety switch.

Thanks Spike! The shop cleaned up the corrosion on the solenoid and it works fine-$55. I will have them work on the T case buzz. They said $60-120. Right now the Tcase shifter is "frozen" it will not budge. I read some other threads about this problem and I will see if I can get it freed up. I'm out of town for 2 weeks so I will update later. Thanks again.PSJ
