Default Transfer case replacement

The dealer has told me that the transfer case needs to be replaced. Started hearing a moaning/humming noise when pressing the acelerator. The car was not making itwhen coasting. No vibration or anyother problems. Any advise? Dealer said the case will cost about$3,400. Need help.By the way i have a 04 discovery 2. Thanks for any help.

Well if you want to save some cash try getting the t-case here, and have an indy shop do the work.

X2 on the re-built one. Do you not have any warranty left? How many miles?

You are out, unless you got an extended warranty. Check your manual for warranty info, just to be sure.

What year Disco do you have?
You can look around on line and find good used one for $300 or $400 plus the labor to install it.

Try changing the fluid in it first.

It shouldnt be toast at 95k, unless it was ran low on fluid.

They are going to do a flush and change out the fluid (it's at the dealer right now) before we go down that road. You know the car is not vibrating or making a grinding noise. Just a humming under accelaration. We'll see.
