Hey guys, I am needing to change my trans fluid and filter on my Disco I, but I need to know what size wrench to buy so that I can remove the cooler line.
I have a '97 SE with 170k on the clock..

Why are you wanting to remove the cooler lines? Most people want to try and figure how to remove the pan without remocing the cross member. When did you last replace the filter?
If it were replaced in the last 45K, I would suggest just doing a fluid change and leave the filter along. On D2 trannys we don't even have to replace the filter after the 30K, just fluid changes.

The cooler line comes out of the front of the trans pan. I had already removed all of the bolts that hold the pan on and the cooler line was the only thing holding it in place.
Without removing the line I cannot get the pan far enough out of the way to remove the filter.
I do not know when it was changed last.
I have the filter and would like to use it. I dont like giving AB my money for nothing you know?

No problem Mike.
I would'nt be asking but non of the stores will let you take a couple of wrenches to the parking lot to see which on fits. Something about stealing or something...I dont get it.

I have actually tried a pipe wrench but I dont want to mess up the nut or break the cooler line.
When I first tried a couple of months ago I drained the fluid and tried to drop the pan, that is when I realized that the cooler line was in the way.
So I refilled it with clean fluid and have not been to worried about it, but I want to get it done before snow. And it has been almost 10k since the new fluid was put in with a dirty filter.
If I hold a tape measure up to it and measure the size of the nut, will that work?
