would any one of you be familiar with the diffuclty level of changing the transmission fluid and filter for a 98 disco. I havent really looked underneath the car and was wondering if i would be able to do it in my garage. Thanks.

How many miles on the truck, has it had the tranny srviced before.
It is a pain in the *** to do a service with a filter, need to move the crose member and I have heard in somecases prat of the exhaust.
If the filter was done last time, do a fluid only change, you'll be fine.

well i bought the disco used, and the service history wasnt really kept up to date. It has 140k miles on it, the transmission fluid is beginning to turn into a burnt red/brown. Would you reccomend doing it at home or taking it to a transmission specialist? thanks.

Do it your self, go buy 6 quarts of ATF, Dextron, drain and refill as necessary, drive it for a week or so and then change it again this time adding a bottle of Luca tranny additive.
After the second change it will be pretty happy. In the future because of the mileage on the truck, change the fluid every 15K.

thanks very much for the quick reply. I bought the vavoline over 75k transmission fluid (dexron III mercon..etc) that any good..or should i just go with the regular dexron and the additive? thanks again

That is a good way to go, I like vavoline products, except their engine oil.
