Default Transmission oil cooler as engine oil cooler?

2004 Discovery II. Thinking of adding a OEM oil cooler for the engine, notice the OEM transmission cooler is identical and has a larger cooling surface. Is it a direct bolt on in front of the radiator and can it be used as an engine oil cooler?

That is a good question. I am looking at an aftermarket one, also looking at the gen - right hood louvers, mounting the oil cooler under one of the louvers, expelling the heat up. The engine bay heat will "vent" and the oil cooler will not get the "shock" of ice cold air passing over it. It will be the engine bay heat passing over the cooler leaving the bay. That's my theory anyways. Stg

no reason you couldn't a cooler is a cooler, you might want to look at the stock setup on 99 -01/02 as far as piping or you could just use a sandwich adapter between the block and filter

^A cooler is not always a cooler... Engine oil coolers have larger tubes to prevent pressure drop and flow restriction due to the thicker fluid. A thermostatic cooler is best so that you can still let the oil get up to temp to help burn off moisture.
