Default Transmission Oil Temperature Light?

My transmission oil temp. warning light illuminates whenever I drive off-road. Not even really demanding stuff, just climbing hills and stuff. Any ideas? I thought maybe the tranny fluid or transfer case fluid might need to be changed because something is causing the transmission to get hot. It doesn't ever do it when I drive on-road. HELP!!

Tranny fluid might be low? It's gonna move around a lot in the pan offroad etc.

Flush/change it and find out. You prob need to do it anyway if you have not.

Start with changing the fluid, if that does not fix it then you need a new trans temp sensor.

the transfer case fluid or transmission fluid? I'll eventually change both but which would be causing the light to come on? What type of transmission fluid should I use?

Do both, but the light is for the transmission fluid. (Dexron III)

I'd start with changing the fluid, then checking the trans temp sensor, then checking to see if your front fans come on.

The transfer case takes 75w/90 gear oil.

Yes he means the a/c fans, however they do not cool the engine, they are for the a/c only.

I picked up some fluid and a tranny filter, now how do you get the oil/fluid pan off to get to the old filter?

Thats why we have the "write up" section.

I'm not stupid. I have read through the entire thread on changing the tranny fluid in the write-up section, but it barely mentions anything about the filter. All it says is that it's inside the tranny oil pan. That's all fine and dandy except that that's not what I'm asking. I know where the filter is, I want to know where the tranny pan is. is it the part that has the drain plug and filler/level plug?
