Default Transmission Problem?

Hey guys I've got a 2003 Discovery with 130,000 miles. This morning I heard a clicking sound coming from what I thought was under the the shifter. The best way I would describe it was like a CD changer rapidly changing discs but it was clicking too.

The truck wasn't shifting hard and appeared to be running smoothly despite the sound. When I was driving I slowed to 25-20 mph when I heard the noise. I pulled over and waited for a minute, tried not to freak too much. I put it in the first gear to see if I would have the same problem and I didn't hear the noise again. I pulled over again and put in the drive and took it on back roads home. I didn't hear the noise again the rest of the way home. I had the transmission serviced in January. As far as I could tell I had the truck all the way in drive. Any ideas?

I haven't had that done in my ownership but it's something I've planned on doing. As far as I could tell the clicking doesn't increase with speed. Though I didn't go much faster than 35-40 mph. It sounds almost electronic in a weird way

well unless you want to destroy your truck i would get the drive shaft rebuilt first thing. without a better description of where the sound is coming from can't really help. if you want some good help take a video so we can hear the sound. prefferably next to a building wall so it echoes into the truck.

You suspect it's the driveshaft? What are the typical signs? I'll try to get a video up here.

typical signs are squeaking or clicking, soon followed by a harsh bang knock, shake, rubmble, loss of power, warning lights and heavy repair bills.

You might want to get responsible for your truck and crawl under and see how many grease fitting you have on your front drive shaft.
I am always amazed how a person can not have a clue about what they are driving and what needs to be taken care of.
I would seriously suggest you "STOP" driving that truck as of now till you find out what is wrong or have it towed to a shop other then the dealer before you have a major failure.
