Transmission Question
I've been noticing something recently in the way my 2000 Disco shifts. It seem that when I put it in gear, I need to wait a second or two for everything to engage before I give it gas, or it kind of 'thumps' into gear. The same issue happens when I shift from reverse into drive or vice-versa. Additionally, I've noticed that the downshift when climbing hills or heavy acceleration is a bit rough.
Is this just a normal feel for this tranny, or should I take the time to have some codes read? I have no lights on on the dash, but I'd hate to have my transmission decide to take a crap while I was halfway up a muddy hill somewhere in the Tillamook State Forest . . .

I have owned other heavy duty vehicles but none of them have done it. I am told this is solely a rover thing... however, I also know quite a few people who have had their tranny's go out in there rovers around 60k miles... which I have 63k on mine so I am a little worried!
I'm nervous but it still seems to run pretty strong so I think we are okay. My fingers are crossed anyhow[sm=smiley3.gif]
Question for you Benhamtroll. Do you drive it in sports mode or just put it in drive and go? Which is better?

I'm just now doing the "experiment" on gas mileage between the sport mode and regular. I haven't gone thru my tank of gas in sport mode yet its still 3/4 full. What kind of mileage do you get in yours?
In the disco's you should have a little more "slop" between the gears, than you may be used to in other vechals. There are many rovers out there that have this problem. To be on the safe side, check your u-joints for slop in them as well.

Let's hope it's not THAT bad.
